3 - Press "Write" button
4 - Press "OK"

In response to an observation by 'Peter J'...... Peter has indicated that the above procedure does not appear to work on his pa. I have tested this on my pa2x and initially it did work. I switched off the keyboard and the list was retained. I then attempted to create another New List by the above method and it did NOT work. However I have found a workaround that does work and it is detailed below....

Clone a Songbook list.....

1 - Enter Songbook and go to the 'List Edit' Tab and press 'Write' NOT 'New List'

2 -  Select the 'New list' radio button on the screen and rename the List - OK Yes!

3 - The new Custom List will have all the entries from the list that you have 'Cloned'.....Delete all those entries [Del Song]. When clear you can then add your new songbook entries to the list. It would be benificial to use just a short existing list for this purpose...

TIP: Clone your new empty list as above several times in readiness for future lists.

It would appear to be a 'bug' in the OS

If you want to change sounds STS settings etc

Additional: Changing pads in Songbook

Enable the songbook edits on the screen drop down Menu.

A MUST DO HERE: The pads are protected/locked in the operating system under Global settings and you need to ''unprotect'' the 'pads'...Global settings -> General Controls -> tab to 'locks' page and unlock 'pad control' then 'Write Global on the screen menu-> Global setup...........

When I've changed the pad on tab book edit1 I immediately go to the 'Write Menu' on the main screen page and Write current style performance which changes the pad permanently on the new Songbook song. You can leave the pads unlocked permanently and save that setting in Global....

SongBook Editor frequent operations:

Note: following examples are based on current application version available here.

1. Merging two SongBook files:

You can merge entries from different SongBook files.

   1. Run the SongBook Editor, and open the first SongBook file.

   2. Run a second session of the SongBook Editor, and open the second SongBook file.

   3. With the windows of both sessions on-screen, drag & drop entries from one window to the other one. You can drag&drop Songs between the Book and Selected List panels. When moving a Song from a source Selected List to a target one, the corresponding entry will be automatically created at the target Book panel. Note: When copying a Song to a different SongBook file, the Song's Song Selection Number is removed.

   4. Save the modified SongBook file(s).

2. Changing a Style’s position:

Multiple entry editing allows for global replacement of resources. For example, say you moved a Style to a different location in your instrument; you can easily replace this Style in all entries making use of it. For example, if you moved the Style “Jazz Waltz” from location <1:6> to location <10:1>, here is how to edit your SongBook entries to reassign the Style:

   1. In the Book panel, click the Resource label to order all entries by Resource.
   2. Locate and select all entries referenced to Style <1:6>, then double click one of them (or right-click and choose the Edit command) to open the Song dialog box for multiple entry editing.
   3. In the Song dialog box, check the “Style” checkbox, choose bank 10 and location 1, then click OK to close the dialog box.
   4. Notice how all selected entries are now referenced to Style <10:1>.

3. Changing the device and path to your midifiles and MP3 files:

In case you move your midifiles or MP3 files to a different device or folder, for example from your PC’s hard disk to an USB memory stick, or from the root to the “Midifile” folder, it is easy to reassign them to the new device or folder. When editing a single entry, you can edit both the file path and the file name. When editing multiple entries, you can only edit the file path.

1]. Select the entry(es) to be edited, right-click it (them) and choose the Edit command.
2]. When the (Multiple) MIDI Song or MP3 Song opens, locate the “Resource file” line (or check the “Resource path” checkbox, in case of multiple entries).

Saving Transposition's in Songbook:

1]. Go to 'Global Settings'' - General Controls - Lock page
Unlock Master Transpose'' which is on the 'Tuning Page'' top r/h side --> page menu Write - Global setup and leave the Master Transpose 'unlocked' Otherwise the settings will revert back to normal on PA re-boot

2]. Enter 'Songbook Window' - Book Edit Page1

3]. Top RH corner drop down menu - Enable List Edit

4]. Alter the Transpose to your choice

5]. press the Write Button.

Is there a way to rearrange the songs in SongBook, after we have made a Custom List?

Don't forget to press 'Write' when done.......

When saving an entry with two Songs assigned to the Sequencers, I can only successfully save the Song assigned to Sequencer 1. No Song assigned to Sequencer 2 is saved...
That is correct. SongBook entries only save the Song assigned to Sequencer 1. So, when preparing entries for the SongBook, only work with Sequencer 1.

Q) Where are Custom Lists stored?

A) The .SBD file.

Q) The SongBook can automatically recall the Style Play or Song Play mode, depending on the type of SongBook entry. How can I have the same Midi settings in both operations?
Midi modules?
A) You must assign the same Midi Setup to both the Style Play and Song Play mode.
First of all, create a Midi Setup with your custom settings.
Press GLOBAL and shoose Midi.
Go to the Midi Out Channels page.
Program the channels as desired.
Note: if you are using an external Voice Harmonizer, set CH1 to "Chord", to let Pa send chords.
From the page menu choose the "Write Global-Midi Setup" command to save the new Midi Setup.
Now you can assign the new Midi Setup to the Style Play mode:
Go to Style Play > Preferences > Global Setup page.
Assign the previously edited Midi Setup to the Midi Setup parameter.
From the page menu, choose the "Write Global-Style Setup" command.
Then assign it to the Song Play mode:
Go to Song Play > Preferences > General Control page.
Assign the previously edited Midi Setup to the Midi Setup parameter.
From the page menu, choose the "Write Global-Song Play Setup" command.
At this point, Pa automatically selects the same Midi Setup whenever you switch to a different operative mode.

"STS Lock" function would be a logical addition to Pa functionality:

But here's a possibility for consideration:

1]. Turn off the SINGLE TOUCH button [so that changing styles/songs doesn't

change Keyboard Tracks].

2]. Go to Global > General Controls > Interface, and tick "Auto Performance

Select". [If you like it this way, you'll want to save the Global settings.]

3]. On the RH side of the panel, turn on Performance Select, and turn off

Style Change.

Now, just one press of a Performance button selects the first Performance in

that bank.

So, you can store your 10 favourite Performances [or STS] in the first slot

of each of the 10 banks, and select those 10 with just one button press. It's

like having 10 STS buttons!

Then, press the button to select the lower row of Performance buttons, and

you have yet another 10 Performances [or STS] ready to go with just one

button press again.

If you only need 4 Performances [STS], that's fine. You might even find the

Performance buttons easier to get to than the 4 STS buttons.

Korg Support Tutorial

Style Compatibility:
  • Pa1X format: can be loaded in all models except Pa80, Pa60 and Pa50.
  • Pa80 format: can be loaded in all Korg Pa series models.
  • Pa800 format: can be loaded in all models except Pa1X (all versions), Pa80, Pa60 and Pa50.

 Style Performance

The Style Performance stores all available Style Play Mode settings for the Style Tracks, including Volume, Pan, Fx, Wrap-Around, EQ, Tempo, Track Mute, etc. All settings available in Style Record Mode (notes, NTT settings, key, keyboard range, etc.) are not saved in the Style Performance but in the Style Pattern Style Record itself, making those two ambients environments separate as for the kind of parameters and saving procedures.

How to recall a Style Performance: A Style Performance is recalled togheter with the Style itself.

How to save a Style Performance: There is only one a single Style Performance for each Style and can be saved, only overwriting the old one in the same Style location in memory, by using the Page Menu -> Write Current Style Performance command or the shortcut Shift + any of the Style Select buttons (you do not need to press the button corresponding to the target location).

 Style Play Split point setting:

Q) How can I set a global split point different than C4?
A) The split point is memorized into each Performance or STS, by means of the Write Performance or Write Single Touch Setting page menu command. When choosing, a different split point might be selected (unless the Split Point Lock is turned on).
If you like to always keep a split point other than C4, here is how to set a global split point (using the Expert interface):

Go to the main page of the Style Play or Song Play mode.
Choose Performance 1 of Bank 1, that you will use to store the default settings.
Press the Split tab to see the Split Point panel.
Select your desired global split point.
Close the lock icon next to the Split Point parameter (Split Point Lock).
Select the Write Performance command from the page menu, then choose Performance 1 of Bank 1 as the target location.

Press GLOBAL to go to the Global mode, then choose the Write Global-Global Setup command from the page menu to save the Split Point Lock status into the Global Setup in
When you turn the Korg Pa off, then on again, the global split point will be automatically selected - and will not change any Performance or STS.

 Style Edit/Record:

Q) What happens if I create a User Style pointing to User Sounds, and then load a different set of User Sounds to the same locations?
A) The User Style will point to the newly loaded User Sounds. If the Sounds are different than the ones you used when programming the new Style, the Style will sound different.
When saving User Styles pointing to User Sounds, it is preferable to execute a Save All operation, to save both the User Styles and the User Sounds to a single folder.
Later, you will be able to execute a Load All operation, to load all User data with a single operation. The original User locations will be used for the loaded data.
Please, refer to the Disk chapter in the User's Manual, for more information on the Load All ("Loading all the User data") and Save All operations ("Saving the full memory content").

Q) How can I change the Time Signature of a Style, after the Style has been recorded?
A) You can't. You can only change the Time Signature (Meter parameter) before starting to record the Style, when the Chord Variation is still empty.

Q) How can I assign a different Sound or DrumKit to all (or several) Style Elements?
A) You can do it in three ways. We'll make an example with a DrumKit.
First option, by using the Style Record mode (this one allows you to have different Sounds for each Style Element):the Style Performance into the SSD memory (page menu > Write Current Style Performance).
Enter Style Record mode.
Press MENU, and go to Style Element Track Control section.
Select the Sound/Expression page.
Select the Drum track.
Press the DRUM & PERCUSSION button, to open the Sound Select window.
Press DISPLAY HOLD to turn on its LED.
Select INTRO 1 on the control panel, and select one of the DrumKits in the Sound Select window.
Select INTRO 2 on the control panel, and select one of the DrumKits in the Sound Select window.
Go on this way with all the other Style Elements (Variation, Fill, Ending...).
Write the Style to the SSD memory (page menu > Write Style).
Second option, by using the Copy Sounds command of Style Record mode (this copies all sounds, not just the DrumKit):the Style Performance into the SSD memory (page menu > Write Current Style Performance).
Enter Style Record mode.
Press MENU, and go to Style Element Track Control section.
Select the Sound/Expression page.
Select the Drum track.
Press the DRUM & PERCUSSION button, to open the Sound Select window, and select a Drum Kit.
Select the Copy Sounds command from the page menu.
While in the dialog box, select All as the target.
When done, write the Style to the SSD memory (page menu > Write Style).
A third option does not require you edit the Style, but doesn't allow different Sounds or Drum Kits in different Style Elements (Variation, Fill, Ending...):
While in the main page of the Style Play mode, press TRACK SELECT to see separate Style tracks.
Uncheck the Original Style Sounds option.
Select the Drum track.
Press the DRUM & PERCUSSION button, to open the Sound Select window, and select a Drum Kit.
Write the Style Performance (page menu > Write Style Performance)

Also, this must be saved by PERFORMANCE or STS (each Style has 1 STS group). If you do not save it then when you return to this style it will be at the old settings. So you can play with this to test it out and not really change anything for good.

It is not a global change…Therefore you can setup Performances to use this feature differently as you need them.

Using different styles in one performance

When you save your performance your current style is automatically saved in that performance.

Make one performance with choice of style, but save it 2/3/4 times, for example, bank 1, number 1, 2, 3 & 4.  All the settings will be the same in each saved performance.

Prepare the performance settings ready for your song. Save on bank 1 number 1. Than just change to the required style for the next performance and save in bank 1 number 2 and so on.

Now you have the required performance settings, but with 2/3/4 different styles.

When performing, make sure you highlight ‘Style Change’ next to performance button. If you now click 1, 2, 3 & 4 performances your style will change to whatever you need in that particular song.[macboy]
