Back up User & Favourites styles  & Factory Banks

Press keyboard Media Button/Save/ select SSD-S and mark ALL, check all boxes OK & Save - give the file a dedicated name. Select the destination (USB-F or USB-R + HARD DRIVE IF PA2X OR FITTED TO PA800).

Only the 3 User and Favorites Banks will be saved with this method and will exclude the Factory Style Banks. This can be achieved after unlocking the style-protection in Global. You can make a save  for each individual bank for the factroy-styles 1-17 in any location you choose.

When you wish to save the whole Keyboard setup including Factory Banks and all settings this can be achieved -> media-utilities 'full backup'. You can save many Setup's in this way. Use 'Restore' to install the 'full backup' at ant time. This can be altered in any way and then Backed up again as the same named Set.

Bass & Lower Backing

With this function, you can play a simple accompaniment with your left hand. For this to work, the SPLIT LED must be turned on, and the Style must not be running. By default, this function is turned on.

On

When the Style is not running, and you play a chord with your left hand, the chord is played by the Lower Sound (even if it is muted), while the
chord root is played by the Bass Sound. When you start the Style, the normal behavior is restored. When the Bass & Lower Backing function is active, the Backing icon appears in the Lower track Sound’s area.

Off

No Bass Sound is added when the Style is not running. The Lower track can be heard only if it is not muted.

Change pads in Songbook:

First of all, Enable the songbook edits on the screen drop down Menu.

Forget to do it and nothing gets saved. I've just created a new song

in my book and changed a pad from the original style settings. Changed

to another selection and back again and then tried the song and

remains as the changed pad.

Firstly, the pads are protected/locked in the operating system under

Global settings and you need to ''unprotect'' the 'pads'...Global

settings -> General Controls -> tab to 'locks' page and unlock 'pad

control' then 'Write Global on the screen menu-> Global setup...........

When the pad is changed go immediately go to the 'Write Menu' on the

main screen page and Write current style performance which changes the

pad permanently on the new Songbook song.

Change STS in songbook:

You select the song in songbook then EXIT and then change your STS. Go

back to the songbook and Highlight/Select the same song, put a tick in

the sts box to sts 1/2/3/4 [repeat the procedure for each sts you wish

to change] of choice on the book edit1 screen and then press WRITE.

Changing STS order:

After you have made and saved custom settings to all four STS's within a style there is a way to swap
their positions (1,2,3 or 4) without overwriting and having to rebuild any.

Save one or all of them as a performance and then reshuffle them, just be sure to turn off the style select button
.

Changing a Style’s position in Songbook:

Multiple entry editing allows for global replacement of resources. For example, say you moved a Style to a different location in your instrument; you can easily replace this Style in all entries making use of it. For example, if you moved the Style “Jazz Waltz” from location <1:6> to location <10:1>, here is how to edit your SongBook entries to reassign the Style:

   1. In the Book panel, click the Resource label to order all entries by Resource.
   2. Locate and select all entries referenced to Style <1:6>, then double click one of them (or right-click and choose the Edit command) to open the Song dialog box for multiple entry editing.
   3. In the Song dialog box, check the “Style” checkbox, choose bank 10 and location 1, then click OK to close the dialog box.
   4. Notice how all selected entries are now referenced to Style <10:1>
.

Combining Sets:

Step 1:

1. Open SET 1, check it out and find out what you want, write down each style, each perf and sound.
2. For each style write down which DRUM KIT and which USER SOUND it uses and that means on
what track in the style it is,on what location in the User bank it is.
3. For each performance write down which User Sound the performance uses.
4. Do exactly the same with SET 2.

Step 2:

1. Go to Sound Mode then hit record and enter SAMPLING. Click the arrow and choose DELETE. Delete all samples, multisamples and user drum kits, in Sampling Info check for everything to be 0.
2. Go to MEDIA MODE and go to ERASE, on the POP UP menu choose USER SSD and in there in each folder delete everything.Start with Performances, then Pads, then Sounds, then User Drum Kits.
3. Start LOADing ONLY the Styles that you wrote down, one by one in one bank or whatever.
4. Start LOADing ONLY the Performances you wrote down, same as Styles.
5. Start LOADing the USER DRUM KITS as you wrote them down, one by one, they will LOAD their
own samples, you dont haveto do anything in sampling mode, just keep loading one by one.
6. Do the same with USER SOUND...exactly the same as LOADing the USER STYLES.

Step 3:

1. Open the BOOK that you wrote:
2. Go to Style Mode then choose the first style then hit RECORD then you are in Style Record Mode and in there hit MENU and choose Style Elements.
3. In here start to assign each DrumKit to its place and also each User Sounds that was used in that style. Do that for each  Style Element, in here if you press VAR or any other element the programs will change, you have to check for each VAR,FILL, INTRO.
4. After you do that and it sounds ok to you press the ARROW on top and hit SAVE, SAVE that style.
Hit Record again and get out of there...you have to do that for each style.
5. Sellect each Performance and in the 3 Upper tracks start assigning the User Sounds they use.

Control Volume of performance:

How to control the volume of the keyboard tracks, after having chosen a different Performance, Style or STS....

Use a Volume/Expression pedal (optional Korg EXP-2 or XVP10) to control only the keyboard tracks.

Go to the Global > Controller > Pedal/Switch page.
Assign to the pedal the Keyboard Expression function.
Choose "Write Global-Global Setup" from the page menu, to save this setting into memory.
This will let you control the level (Expression parameter) of keyboard tracks by means of the Expression pedal, relative to the accompaniment tracks.

Controlling FX:

In STYLE PLAY hit MENU then choose MIXER/TUNING, on the bottom of the display click SEND FX and in there you have the parameters for both SENDS. If you hit the TRACK SELLECT button you can switch between STYLE TRACKS or ACC TRACKS and adjust individually.

Go to Menu, click FX, choose the effect you want to copy, then go to the ARROW on top and click COPY, after that, go to WHEREVER you want to paste the effect, choose the desired location of A,B,C,D and then go on ARROW again and click PASTE...DONE!

Copy parts of a style variation to another variation.

Listen to the style you want to edit and remember (write

down) which style track from which variation you want to

copy to another variation and listen carefully if this

variation has an empty track or a track you want to replace.
After selecting the style you want to edit press the red

Record button, press Record/Edit Current Style > OK.
Press Menu, press Style Edit, select the tab Copy fm Style.
Now select the style element and track you want to copy from

and the style element and track you want to copy to.
Press Execute and after that press the pull-down menu button

advisable to save the edited style in a user bank. That's

almost all that's to it.
Something to notice: the length of the style variation you

copy from and copy to, need to be the same to get good results

Creating a songbook entry (as opposed to changing STS within a style):

Create STS 1, go to the save page and tick "save current OTSs" and select the number you want to assign it to.
Then save the songbook entry you need to set-up and save each OTS individually.

Create STS 2 and repeat. Each time re-selecting the new STS number on the save page (2,3,or 4). And of course, each time you save the new STS you need to re-save the songbook entry.

What happens in Songbook mode is that if you select "Save all Current STS" it writes the STS you have created not only into STS 1, but into 2,3 and 4 as well.

AND, if you go away from STS 1 on the main page to edit , say, STS 3, without first saving STS1 it will revert back to the one contained in the original style.

When changing STS's within a style, you simply need to edit it and then from the page menu TAB (top right of the page) save it there. (But you do need to disable factory style/sound protect in the global menu).

Create Your own custom banks of Factory Styles:

You can customize all your banks.

First of all, you'll need to unprotect the Factory data in memory.

  • Go to Global > General Settings > Lock Tab >, and uncheck the Factory Style and Pad Protect checkbox.

Then, you will make a backup of you memory data. Instead of using the Backup Resource procedure, you'll create a new SET folder, containing ordinary data to be later loaded one by one (and not a backup archive).

  1. Go to the Disk > Save page.
  2. Select the ALL folder, and press Open.
  3. Select the STYLE folder, then press Open to access the banks. Each bank corresponds to one of the buttons of the STYLE section. For example, BANK01.STY is the first button, when the upper row of names is selected.
  4. Select the first bank, then press Save To.
  5. In the new window that appears, choose a location into your hard disk, then press New SET, to create a SET folder where to save your data. Assign a name to the new folder (for example, MYBKP.SET), then confirm.
  6. Press Save to save the selected bank, then confirm it being saved into the new SET folder (ex., MYBKP.SET).
  7. Repeat the above for all the other banks.

At this point, you'll start loading data from the saved backup, to create you custom banks in memory.

  1. Go to the Disk > Load page.
  2. Select the backup folder (called, in the example above, MYBKP.SET) and press Open.
  3. Select the STYLE folder, then press Open to access the banks.
  4. Select the bank containing one of the Styles you want to load into a Factory location, and press Open to see the Styles it contains.
  5. Select the desired Style, and press Load. A dialog box appears, asking you to select one of the available locations in memory. Select the target location, and press OK to load the Style.

Now you can rename your Styles.

  1. With the Styles still unprotected, select the first Style to be renamed, and press RECORD. Choose the Record/Edit Current Style option.
  2. Choose the Page menu > Write Style command, and edit the Style name.
  3. Save the Style into the original location, proposed as default option.

Consider  the same STS settings for some styles:

To have the same STS settings for some styles so when pa is powered off and on,
those styles will be recalled with the same STS settings.
Just unclick the STS button and then switch Styles, the STS will be there,
resave it in the style.

In style play mode with Single Touch LED off...

1. Select new style from user Style (from screen or KB) - get new STS's.

2. Select new perf from KB with Style LED on - get new style and new STS's.

3. Select new perf from KB with Style LED off - keeps STS's that I want but keeps the style the same also.

Creating a new Drum Kit from multiple KSF, AIFF or WAVE files:

Note: only for models including the sampling feature.

First, you must load all needed samples, and save them to the hard disk and internal memory. - Then, you must assign the loaded samples to a Drum Kit.

[Use Awave Studio (full licensed version) on a PC to assemble the AIFF files into MultiSamples. Split any stereo AIFF into two mono (it's handled automatically in Awave Studio). You will have one multisample ending _R and on ending _L. Then export the multisamples from Awave Studio as Triton/ Trinity 16 bit format. You will end up with a directory structure comprising KSF files at the lowest level, then a KMP file for each multisample, and a KSC file at the top level. You can not use the KSC file on the Pa800/Pa2x.

Then on the Pa800 in Sound mode, press record and select the Multisample screen. Then select Import from the drop down menus, and import each multisample with all its underlying samples, using the KMP script file. It will automatically find and load all the KSF samples in the asociated subdirectory.

To build a quality Sound, maybe with 4-layers of stereo multisamples you will have 8 mono multisamples to import, and you will need to assign 8 OSC's in the Pa800's Sound structure - one half panned left for the _L multisamples, and one half panned right for the _R multisamples. There will be 8 KMP multisamples files with associated subdirectories each containing the KSF samples for the corresponding multisample. After importing each one, select "Write" from the drop down menu, before you import the next one.

Depending on what type of sound you are trying to create, start off with the nearest factory Sound to the one you want, then change the ROm based multisamples assigned to each OSC to use your own RAM based multisamples.

All the above applies to building Drumkit Sounds]
[RS]

1. Go to Sampling mode.

2. Load a sample (page menu > Load Sample). If needed, edit it.

3. Write the sample (page menu > Write Sample). While in the Write Sample dialog box,
assign it to a percussive family. Assign it a name.

4. Repeat the above for the other samples.

5. Exit from Sampling. You will go to the Sound mode.
At this point, samples have been saved into (1) a hidden PCM folder inside the hard disk
(used by the Autoload at startup function) and (2) mirrored in the internal RAM memory.

6. While in Sound mode, select one of the "Empty" User DK locations. (You may also select an existing Factory DK, to start from existing data).

7. Press MENU, and go to the Drum Kit page.

8. Assign each of the newly loaded RAM samples to different zones of the keyboard. Please remember to select the RAM bank (instead of the ROM one) before selecting each of the samples, and that there are six velocity layers for each key.

9. Write the Drum Kit (page menu > Write Sound).

At this point, as seen above, you have samples in (1) a hidden PCM folder inside the hard disk and (2) mirrored in the internal RAM memory. You also have the Drum Kit's header (i.e., the Drum Kit's name and pointers) in the internal SSD memory.

This means that if you turn the instrument off, then on again, samples are deleted from the (volatile) RAM memory, while the Drum Kit's header is still in the (non-volatile) SSD memory.

When you select the Drum Kit, if samples have not been reloaded into the internal RAM memory, it may not actually sound. Samples are automatically reloaded it the Disk > Preferences >PCM Autoload option was selected before turning the Pa1X on.

If it wasn't, you may load them by pressing the Disk > Preferences > Load PCM button.

To have a different STS in every variation by changing the VAR so that the STS will change automatically -  It is only one single process. Save the STS’s from 1 to 4 the same as the variations.
If you need STS1 in VAR1 that has to be saved in STS1 then 2 in 2 and so on. The SINGLE TOUCH button on the left of the keyboard: If it’s a solid LIGHT it means that it will change STS when changing style, no LIGHT it won't change STS while changing styles. When it’s a SOLID LIGHT, if you press it only once you will get a BLINKING LIGHT, if you leave it in that mode, that's when you get the style to change STS’s by VARIATIONs.
